introduction
Labour & Education
The Labour & Education Cluster advices public and private organisations on labour, education and the relationship between the two, on economic and econometric studies of public and private organisations. Research topics include matching labour demand to labour supply, the dynamics of internal and external labour markets, bottlenecks in the labour market, wage differences and terms of employment, labour migration and the position of minority groups on the labour market, active labour market programmes and schooling, tailoring education to work, choice of study and profession, and the design of the educational system.
The research carried out by the Labour & Education Cluster distinguishes itself by the use of state-of-the-art scientific research methods in combination with a strong policy orientation: the research methods include evaluations, econometric effect studies, analyses of (economic) conduct, forecasts and scenarios and (social) cost-benefit analyses. Furthermore, the Cluster's research of the labour market and education is, above all, of a practical and applied nature. The majority of research issues are derived from practical situations and, consequently, relate to urgent labour and education problems and issues. We maintain this unique blend of theory and practice both by means of our continual contacts with the academic world (courses, attending academic conferences and writing articles for academic journals) and by means of taking part in the public debate via workshops and conferences, and by writing articles for newspapers and magazines.
