Maikel Volkerink has graduated in the field of Economics as well as Political Sciences. In 2008 he completed his Research Master in Social Sciences and a bachelor in Economics and Business. Due to the broad set-up of the Research Master, Maikel is familiar with both quantitative and qualitative methods of research. Both his master and bachelor thesis concerned the topic of (socio)economic development in relation to Islamist radicalisation in Muslim countries. In 2009 Maikel also completed a master in Economics (with distinction). In the final months of this study, Maikel worked as an intern at the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB) where he wrote his thesis regarding the effect of future demographic developments (ageing and population decline) on the price of nontradable goods and services. Maikel has been employed at SEO Economic Research since January 2007. Initially as a student assistant. From May 2009 onwards he is employed as researcher at the research group Labour Economics and Education.
