From 2001-2005 Koert has worked as a manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers Corporate Finance NV, where he specialized in competition economics, state aid and industrial organization. Since September 2005, Koert is a senior researcher at SEO Economic Research and he holds a research position at the department of economics and econometrics of the University of Amsterdam. Koert has extensive experience in research and advice in the field of competition economics in general, and state aid in particular. He advices - and conducts research for - corporate clients, national and international, in competition cases and state aid cases. In addition, Koert conducts research for government agencies, the European Commission, central banks and competition authorities. His sector specializations are transport, health care and the financial sector. In his research affiliation to the University of Amsterdam, Koert’s research theme is State aid & competition. State aid to Services of General Economic Interest (SGEI) and State aid to R&D are of particular interest. In addition, Koert teaches competition policy and state aid at the University of Tilburg. Because of confidentiality of most of Koert’s work in state aid cases and competition cases, the projects led by Koert, as well as the accompanying reports, are not (all) included in full detail in the attached list of publications.
Koert van Buiren (1971) graduated in (international) macroeconomics at department of economics and econometrics of the University of Amsterdam. During and after graduation, he was affiliated to SEO Economic Research as a research assistant and researcher subsequently. In the period 1999-2001, Koert worked as a policy advisor at the Department of Economic Affairs of Curacao, the Netherlands Antilles, where his main focus was privatization. In this position, Koert was actively involved in a number of privatization processes.
