Nicolas Berthiaume - Internationale Economie

Nicolas Berthiaume

Nicolas Berthiaume is a research intern at SEO’s Global Economics cluster and an International Economics Master’s student at the University of Amsterdam. As part of his MSc. research thesis, he is currently working on a project aimed at determining the association between development levels and international migration using a micro-founded gravity model.

Last June, Nicolas obtained a BA (Hons, Cum Laude) in Liberal Arts and Sciences from University College Utrecht, where he studied Mathematics, Economics and Neuroscience, with a minor in Philosophy. There, he wrote his thesis on the impact of a fixed exchange-rate regime on export diversification in the CFA franc zone, which was awarded with an A grade (4/4).

Nicolas has both strong qualitative and quantitative research skills, and an acute knowledge of international development issues as well as international economics theories. He is proficient in empirical dataset analysis and has some experience with qualitative survey-based research. Moreover, he possesses first-hand knowledge of the reality of development work, having worked as an intern at the Akvo Foundation in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and setting out to start another two-months internship at Nzuri Trust, a Kampala-based microfinance institution, this summer.
