An Economic Perspective on the Dutch National Research Agenda

Roel van Elk (CPB) and Bas ter Weel have contributed to a book about the National Research Agenda of the Netherlands. In their paper they bring an economic perspective to the table and approaches the issue of research steering from the angle of market failure. They ponder the balance between the risk of scattered research and underutilization of complementarities on the one hand, and the far too conservative or market-driven economies of scale on the other.
