SEO Amsterdam Economics is an established economic research institute that conducts applied economic research, evaluations, and advisory projects on behalf of clients such as the Dutch Government, the European Commission, the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and companies such as Fairtrade. Originally founded by the University of Amsterdam, SEO is now an independent, not-for-profit organisation, located in the heart of Amsterdam. 

SEO’s Global Economics & Development department is currently offering 2 research internships for strong candidates in development economics, international economics, or environmental economics, who would be interested in gaining useful work experience in addition to (or following) their graduate studies. Strong candidates are also eligible to apply for a subsequent full-time junior researcher position at SEO.  

The number and allocation of hours per week is flexible and could range from 2.5 days per week to full-time (preferred). The internship fee is 600 euros per month on a full-time basis. Minimum internship length is 3 months, but 6-12 months is preferred.  


  • Master’s in Economics with focus on macro, development, trade, public policy, or environment (or currently pursuing a Master’s)
  • Excellent English writing skills (Dutch and fluency in other languages is a plus) 
  • Strong quantitative skills 
  • Experience with advanced excel, Stata, R or other programming software is a plus  
  • Experience with collecting and analysing economic data, preferably with international economic data 
  • Must be authorised to live in the Netherlands; we unfortunately cannot provide visa sponsorship for internships
