Suppliers of devices, brokers, users and service providers will be active in the eID system. It is a two-sided market in which the decision of a service provider (such as a web shop or municipality) to start using the system depends on the number of participating users and vice versa. Due to this network effect its initiators fear that adoption of the system may not gain traction fast enough. This report therefore calculates a business case in which several suppliers of devices are competing, payment takes place on a transaction basis and the adoption of online authentication devices is initiated. Many factors are still uncertain and strongly affect the results of the calculation model.
