Not all countries have already created an official TSA, but many of them are still in need for a model to establish the impact of tourism. This paper shows the relevant details of an econometric model for the small island tourism economy of Curacao called ‘Turistika’, and discusses drawbacks and advantages of our particular approach.

Turistika is based on behavioural relations estimated on micro data, expenditure surveys among tourists. It identifies 49 different tourist groups with different demand patterns affecting 11 different sectors of the economy. The model is used to calculate the impact of implementing the Tourism Development Masterplan for Curacao.
