Hanna Sakhno

Hanna Sakhno is a researcher in the Global Economics and Development team at SEO Amsterdam Economics. She holds a diverse portfolio of projects on economic development and strategy, human capital and labour markets, public opinion and electoral behaviour, alternative data for macroeconomic monitoring, and Ukraine —conducted for academia, think tanks, and EU institutions.

Hanna will soon obtain her PhD in Economics from the University of Groningen. Her thesis explores how voters’ socio-economic background, values, and attitudes, such as anti-immigrant and climate-skeptical sentiments, drive support for populist parties across Europe. Prior to that, she worked at the European Central Bank, where she analysed the Russian economy under sanctions and China’s innovation policies and growth model. Hanna also worked at the Centre for Economic Strategy, one of Ukraine’s leading economic policy think tanks, where she led projects on human capital and labour market policies, and contributed to multistakeholder projects on national economic development and the reconstruction of war-affected regions in Ukraine.

She holds a Research Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Glasgow and a B.Sc. in International Economics.
