This study focuses on international connectivity as a precondition for the Southern Randstad (the conurbation containing The Hague and Rotterdam) to be a strong international competitor. For the purposes of the study ‘international connectivity’ is defined as the quality of the Southern Randstad’s and competing regions’ connections with other European regions, weighted for those regions’ economic importance. The study differentiates between connectivity in terms of passenger transport, goods transport and digital infrastructure, and between road, sea, air and rail transport. It looks in detail at the international connectivity of the various economic clusters in the Southern Randstad compared with that of the regions that compete with those particular clusters:
1.    Rotterdam World Port
2.    The Hague, International City of Peace and Justice
3.    The Greenports Network
4.    The South Holland Knowledge Axis
