Gerben de Jong

Gerben de Jong is a quantitative researcher/data scientist with knowledge of the latest scientific insights in econometrics, economics and marketing. At SEO he uses this knowledge to analyse complex economic problems in order to help organizations making informed decisions.

From his scientific background, Gerben is skilled in the analysis of consumer (choice) behaviour with the use of vignette methods and discrete choice models. Besides, Gerben’s research focusses on empirical research on market structure and competition. He also has extensive experience in linking geographic and economic data sources and in conducting econometric analyses in which space plays a prominent role.

Gerben is well acquainted with various programming languages and statistical software packages such as R, Python, Stata, SPSS and GIS. In his work, Gerben applies a wide range of data collection methods such as the design of (choice) experiments and the use of webscraping to collect (big) data sets from the web.

Before joining SEO, Gerben was affiliated to the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he worked on his dissertation and taught quantitative research methods.  His dissertation focusses on airline competition and air traveller behaviour in aviation markets. On this topic he gave talks to academics, industry professionals and policy makers at various international conferences. A number of studies from his dissertation are published in renowned scientific journals in the fields of economics and transportation.
